The Katelios Group has about 50 members, most of whom are from or live in Katelios. It is run by the local couple of 'heroes in the seaweed'. They have taken upon themselves the mission to do something about Katelios and its beautiful bay. They have seen too many parts of Greece lost in the name of quick money from irresponsible tourist development. They hope to be able to swim in clean waters for a while. Actually, they wish the same even for their children and the future generations.
Many ex volunteers come back in the summer to give a hand. Some are crazy enough to come back every summer and help with the new volunteers and the turtles. Somehow they find the time to make all of their dreams come true.
For some reason English volunteers are commonplace in the summer of Katelios. But volunteers come in good numbers from all over the place, as you can read in the ex volunteer stories.
