What to bring when volunteering

List of things to bring

Necessary

May – July only

  • Warm, dark, old clothes for night watch – long trousers and sleeves.
  • Torch with red filter for night watch (or you can simply colour the lens with red permanent marker). Turtles cannot see this light wavelength particularly well

All volunteers

  • Sun-hat, sun-cream, after-sun, sun glasses
  • Sleeping bag / sheet
  • Alarm clock
  • Personal first aid kit
  • Small rucksack /daysack
  • Money or bank card
  • Good stout trainers for walking on rocky paths
  • Normal torch for walking around at night (not on beach)

  • Thermos flask – very welcome on cold, humid night patrols!

Noisy flip flop slippers are not allowed on the beach at night. Some people prefer sandals, some trainers, some trekking boots, and some walk barefoot on the beach at night. It is up to you, but good shoes are needed to walk on the rocky paths to get to some beaches.
