Getting around

By air

There is an airport in Argostoli with regular flights to Athens, and some direct charter flights from UK and Europe in tourist season (May-October). This is the easiest way to get here (except maybe from Italy). From the airport the only way to get to Katelios is by taxi (30 minutes, 25-35€ depending on the driver).

By sea

Kefalonia is connected to mainland Greece by ferry through Sami (the main port), Argostoli, Poros, Lixouri and Fiskardo. Most ferries go to Patra or Killini. The nearest port to Katelios is Poros.
In the summer there are direct ferry connections to Italy (Bari and Brindisi) and other ferry routes via Patra (Ancona, Venezia) to Sami. From Sami the only direct way to come to Katelios is by taxi.

By bus
From Athens there are some direct buses to Kefalonia every day. The bus goes to Patra or Killini and gets on a ferry, passengers get off the bus and board the ferry, then get on the bus again once in Kefalonia. The good thing is that you need to buy only one ticket at the bus station in Athens for the whole trip. The bus ride is longer (about 6-7 hours) but normally cheaper (about 30€ one way) than flying.
To come to Katelios ask for a bus going to Argostoli via Poros (2 a day). Get back on the bus once you arrive in Poros/Kefalonia, and ask the bus driver, making sure he understands, to stop in Markopoulo, which is about 15 minutes after Poros. In Markopoulo there is a sign to Katelios. It's about 3 km all downhill. If you are coming to volunteer, you may try to call us and see if we can come pick you up, or try to hitch hike. The walk is not nice when you are loaded and it's hot or dark.
Getting around

Hitch hiking is definitely volunteers' favourite way to get around Kefalonia. Katelios, and the island in general, is not very well connected by bus. If you like it natural, there are plenty of possibilities for walking, cycling, canoeing and many more. If you want to rent a car, there are a couple of places in Katelios. Katelios is a few km away from Skala on the way to the main town Argostoli.
