At the Katelios Group we work with a lot of passion. Even more so because we have to work with very little resources.
It's not only that we believe in what we do. We couldn't just be standing there looking at the river flow dirtier and dirtier. How we act defines who we are. So we do care about life in its multiple forms, and we act on this. We also like to have a good laugh and a nice swim.
Our first concern is always to ensure that life is treated with respect.
When they threaten to cover the beach with cement or
when they plan to unearth the seabed to transform the small fishing port in the biggest of the island,
when they erase the vegetation to replace the old dirt road behind the beach with a paved one or
when they destroy the beach dune system to make room for the new big hotel,
when they call us reporting an injured turtle or
when we routinely count the number of eggs hatched in a season,
we know it's our call.
We don't have the presumption to think that whatever we do is right. We always think about the best way to do anything.
We are very heterogeneous, and we work all together for a common purpose. We thank all members, tourists, volunteers and other supporters who help us going with donations, moral and material support. We follow the principle that we do what we can with what we have.
We work on very small budgets, and we rely entirely on donations from tourists, visitors and members and on volunteers' contributions. At the moment we don't receive any public funds, but we are applying to get some financial help in our activities. Any public funds that we may receive in the future will be advertised clearly on our website. For transparency we will also publish our annual budget on the website, you can find it with other documents here.
