The Katelios Group for the research and protection of marine and terrestial life was started by a group of locals in 1994 to protect the natural environment on the island of Kefalonia, Greece.
We have officially monitored the local population of Loggerhead sea turtles on the main nesting beach of the island, Mounda beach, since 1999.
One of our first and greatest achievements has been the renovation of the abandoned local school, that we re-opened as an Environmental Centre.
In the years hundreds of volunteers from all over the world have come to work with us.
Today we face new issues, but we are still working with local people and international volunteers for a balanced development of the place where we live.
