the cheapest for me would be to fly to athens and then bus.
for some reason i cant find flights to kefalonia for under 1000 dollars :S

so if anyone is interested in travelling together plane/bus/train/hitchike ..whichever ..let me know

Hey everyone!
My name's Courtney and I'll be volunteering July 2010 as well. I've been wanting to do this for 3 summers now and am thrilled to finally be able to make it happen! I am American, but living in the Netherlands, so I'll be flying out of Amsterdam. I haven't booked my flight yet, but plan on flying in on either June 30 or July 1st (which ever is cheaper). I would also love to share a taxi to cut on costs, so if everyone could continue to post their travel info, that'd be great! I'll do the same as soon as I have it. Flight is booked! After literally hours of searching, I finally have my flight. I was trying to catch one of the cheap charter flights from the UK but in the end, couldn't make it happen for my time frame and budget. Mostly due to having to get to London first from Amsterdam. Jealous of all you in the UK who can get those cheapies!

SO, I am flying Tuesday 29 June into Athens, arriving at 13:25 and planning on catching the bus/ferry to the island. Is anyone else taking the bus? I tried to find the bus timetable online but the info was a bit scattered. I'm hoping arriving at this time is early enough to catch a bus that day. Otherwise I'll have to hang around until the next morning.

Leaving, I am flying out of Athens on Monday 2 August at 17:25, and again need to take the bus/ferry from the island to catch the flight. I was hoping this flight was late enough to get the first bus out that day, but if not I will leave Sunday 1 August and stay in Athens for the night.

Anyone else going to be doing something similar? I don't mind traveling alone, but it's always nice to have a friend along the way

bus was about 60 euros i think !

But others told me that last year haven't tried it on my own

Granted that things are going a bit crazy here in Greece now, but last time I took the bus a couple of years ago it was less than 35 Euros. I don't think it can be much different now!

There are no timetables online, only way to check bus times is to call the bus station. You can find the numbers here:

In past years the last bus to Kefalonia (Sami) has always been around 17:00, I don't think that has changed either.
In any case when you land you should get your luggage quickly and take the first X93 bus to Kifisou bus station. When you get there find the Kefalonia booth. If you are lucky there will be a bus via Poros at 14:45 and you will make it. Or you can call them to check bus times before rushing there if you prefer, but anyway you will be near the city centre.

Hi Carlotta, I will also be arriving in Kefalonia on the 29th of June, but not until 13:45. If you don't find anyone else to share a taxi and dont mind waiting 2 hours then I would share a taxi with you!
